Netpath is Closing

As Burlington’s Premier Internet Service Provider, it has been our privilege to offer you connectivity to the Internet since 1995!  Your business has helped us be of service to individuals and businesses in Alamance and Rockingham Counties, including many schools and community organizations.

However, economic changes in our market have made our business no longer economically sustainable.  Netpath will cease to offer all Internet connectivity services after Friday, November 30, 2007.  This means that you will need to find and put in place a new source for your email, your web browsing, your web site hosting, your DSL broadband connectivity, and your dialup connection…but we want to help you during this transition.

Netpath has always strived to provide excellent customer service, and we want to continue this through our last day of connectivity.  We have made arrangements with some companies to assist you in transferring your accounts, but you may use whomever you choose.  Please visit our web site (www.netpath.net) for a link to several vendors who can assist you with your transition.  Since our DSL Broadband services and DSL modems are currently provided to you via phone lines we purchased through BellSouth (now AT&T), your easiest transition for high speed Internet services may be to work with AT&T.  Therefore, we will ask AT&T to contact you directly for assistance in transferring any DSL Broadband accounts into their FastAccess Broadband program, but do not wait on them to contact you.

We suggest that you work diligently on your own behalf to set up your new accounts so that you do not lose any days of connectivity to the Internet.  Our Technical Support staff stands available to assist you also.  Please call our office at (336) 226-0425 if you would like more information and personal assistance in making these changes.

Although it is our intention to continue service through Friday, November 30, it is possible that connectivity may be interrupted prior to that time, so we urge you not to delay in transferring your services.  We will be broadcasting this letter in an email to all customers on Monday, November 5, 2007 as an additional notification of this business decision.  If your account has a paid-ahead credit, refunds will be issued during the month of December 2007.  You may email questions about technical assistance to manager@netpath.net, and about your account balance to billing@netpath.net.

Again, we thank you sincerely for your business and your support!

Sincerely,

The President

Information for Customers with Websites

We are sorry for the inconvenience our closing is causing.  To help you during this transition the following are alternative choices for service.

Website Hosts

                                                          Web site hosting & Co-location

Note:  Sites Computer Resources is a Burlington-based web-hosting firm in the list above.  As a service to you for an easy transition, we have asked a representative from Sites Computer Resources to contact you in early November to explain their services.  You are under no obligation to transfer your business to Sites Computer Resources, however we have been using their services for several years and they are very familiar with how we handle web sites.  They should be able to transfer your web site easily and at a minimum cost to you.  We recommend their services.

Topics you will need to ask questions about:

·        DNS:   You will need to ask about your DNS records.  Currently your domains are purchased through Network Solutions, Go Daddy or Register.com.  Your DNS will need to point to your new Host.

·        Aliases:  If you have mailboxes or your own mail server associated with your domain, you will need to ask about setting those up with your new host.

ATTENTION:  On Go Daddy, Network Solutions, and Register.com you need take the time to make sure all of your contact information is correct.  If you are not listed as the Administrative contact you will have to have this changed so you are the Administrative contact.  If you do not do this you will not be able to control the domain name in the future.  You should also take the time to remove Netpath as the Technical contact.  You can change that to your new web site host or to yourself.

To check your information follow this link:

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp

Note:  This is a lookup through Network Solutions, if your domain is registered through Go Daddy the results will tell you.

About your Email Addresses:  If you are the owner of one or more netpath.net email addresses, the netpath.net domain name will remain available.  Sites Computer Resources will take control of the domain at the end of the month and keep it active, allowing you to retain use of any netpath.net addresses you have come to depend on.  If you are interested in keeping your netpath.net email address(es), please let Sites know by filling out a form on their web site:  http://www.sitescomputer.com/portal/WebServices/NetpathEmail/tabid/81/Default.aspx
